Before installing a networked printer within windows XP you will need to firstly know the IP address or the fully qualified name of the printer you wish to connect to and secondly have the printer driver. I always download the latest driver from the vendors web site onto the desktop this will usually be a compressed file so will need to be uncompressed. To un compress firstly create a folder on your desktop then double click the driver and select this new folder as the destination. If a installer starts to run you can simply select cancel.
